The working principle of the zinc oxide arrester made of MST® Resistance Grade Zinc Oxide Brands:

The current passing through the zinc oxide arrester valve plate at rated voltage is very small, which is equivalent to an insulator. When the voltage on the metal zinc oxide arrester exceeds a fixed value, the valve plate "turns on" to discharge a large current through the valve plate into the ground, and its residual pressure will not exceed the withstand voltage of the protected equipment. When the applied voltage drops below the operating voltage, the valve automatically terminates the "on" state and restores the insulation state.

The zinc oxide arrester made of MST® resistance grade zinc oxide is different from the traditional arrester:
